Ten anthrax alerts are underway around Ireland in counties Dublin, Wexford, Kerry and Clare.

The Irish Independent's offices in Dublin are being investigated as is Trinity College, Coolock garda station, a hotel in Parliament St, a school in south Dublin and a private residence in Sundrive Rd.

Also being investigated are an insurance company in Shannon and a doctor's surgery in Tralee and a premises in Enniscorthy.

Health Minister Michael Martin has published a protocol on how to deal with an anthrax attack.

However the minister said there is no reason to believe that Ireland is likely to be a target for biological or chemical warfare.
