A crucial meeting of the ASTI's Central Executive Council is underway in Dublin to discuss the teacher's decision to withdraw voluntary supervision and substitution duties.

ASTI members were balloted on withdrawal after the union rejected a ÂŁ27 pounds per hour pay offer for the work.

The vote was carried by a narrow margin and the Minister for Education Michael Woods said he is disappointed with the result.

Fresh industrial action is a possibility as the 180-member council is meeting to consider its next move.
