Man jailed for 2 years for computer theft

A man who pleaded guilty to stealing over £80,000 worth of equipment from Dell computers has been jailed for two years at Limerick Circuit Court.

A man who pleaded guilty to stealing over £80,000 worth of equipment from Dell computers has been jailed for two years at Limerick Circuit Court.

27-year-old Daragh Benn, with an address at Mungret Street in Limerick, received nine concurrent sentences of six years.

But Judge Harvey suspended the latter four years.

Mr Benn, who now lives in Shannon, pleaded guilty to seven counts of stealing laptop computers and other computer components.

He stole the equipment in 1999 and 2000 while he was working for Dell at its Castleroy facility.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts of handling stolen computer equipment with a retail value of over £50,000.
