Ireland calls special meeting of UN security council

Ireland has called a special meeting of the United Nations security council in New York tonight following yesterday’s attacks on Afghanistan.

The meeting will be chaired by Richard Ryan, the Irish Ambassador to the UN.

Foreign Minister Brian Cowen called the meeting at the request of the Americans following talks with Secretary of State Colin Powell.
