The Northern Ireland cross-community Alliance Party is to elect a new leader today following last month’s resignation of Sean Neeson.

Mr Neeson was the party leader for just three years and his resignation sparked a new leadership race with two candidates putting themselves forward for the post.

The pair are 58-year-old Eileen Bell and 50-year-old David Ford. The next leader of the party will be decided today by a special meeting of the 160 party members in Belfast.

The Alliance Party is one of two political parties on this island electing party leaders today, as the Green Party prepares to elect its first ever party leader this afternoon.
