Taoiseach to warn Blair of Sellafield legal action

The Taoiseach will today warn Tony Blair that Ireland will bring Britain to court over the proposed Stg£460m expansion of Sellafield.

Bertie Ahern is expected to contact the British Prime Minister about the controversy and confirm that we will be taking action at the European Court of Justice.

Mr Ahern has responded to opposition claims that the Government had mothballed its anti-Sellafield campaign, by insisting that he frequently raises the issue with London.

The Government here is also claiming that the expansion has not received proper authorisation from health and safety authorities in Britain.

It says the British plan is "entirely unreasonable".
