The number of people who have died on the roads this year now stands at

297 following deaths of seven people on the roads last night.

It has now been confirmed that the six individuals killed in last night's accident

on the Cork-Bandon road included 15-year-old twin brothers.

They were travelling in a car with another 15-year-old youth and a 23-year-old driver who were also killed in the accident.

An elderly couple, travelling in the second car, also died while the driver of that vehicle remains in a stable condition.

In Kilkenny, Gardai are continuing their investigations into a hit-and-run

which killed a 28-year-old man at Coolcullen, a teenager has been arrested

in connection with the incident.
