Twenty-seven Irish aid agencies and human rights organisations are joining together to call on the US to show restraint in responding to the terrorist attacks.

The agencies are worried that vulnerable civilians will suffer most in any revenge strikes by America.

A spokesperson for the Irish aid agency, Trócaire, said that strikes by the West could lead to thousands of refugees and major confusion in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
