The Irish taxpayer may be asked to cover the cost if a row between airline companies and their insurers over the withdrawal of war risk liability insurance is not resolved.

The insurance underwriters want to withdraw their cover for airlines next Tuesday because of last week’s terrorist attacks and the increasing likelihood of a war breaking out.
