Drugs haul may be biggest in state
The seizure of drugs by gardai this morning may turn out to the biggest haul in the history of the state.
The 15 kilos of uncut heroin seized is around 90% pure, which means it would have a street value of some £15 million.
One hundred thousand Ecstasy tablets were also recovered in the haul.
They were found when detectives stopped and searched a car in Lucan, west Dublin in the early hours of the morning. Two men were arrested at the scene.
In the follow-up operation heroin, a real gun and an imitation firearm were found at a house in Kilmainham. One man and two women were arrested there.
Three men and two women have now been taken into custody.
