Reid to mediate in Ardoyne talks

Northern Secretary John Reid will meet representatives from nationalist Ardoyne and the loyalist Glenbryn estate later today in an effort to end the protests against Catholic children walking to school through the loyalist area.

These will be the first talks between the two sides since the loyalists started their protest at Holy Cross school last week.

The Glenbryn residents are expected to resume their protest on the Ardoyne Road this morning, but, like yesterday, they are expected to remain silent as the children pass by.

They will then heckle the Catholic parents as they return down the road after dropping their children off at school.
