Mitchell expresses confidence in peace process

Former US Senator George Mitchell, who helped broker the Good Friday Agreement, has expressed confidence in the Irish peace process, despite the impending crisis facing it.

Speaking in New York, Mr Mitchell said the agreement is a single entity and must be implemented in full.

However, he added that the loyalist protests in Ardoyne last week show that there is still a deep well of sectarian hatred in the six counties.
