The former Attorney General, John Rogers, will not run for a Dail seat for Labour at the next General Election.

Mr Rogers withdrew his candidature at a selection convention in Co Meath last night.

He cited a conflict of demands on his legal and would-be political careers for the decision.

38-year-old barrister from Navan, Peter Ward, will now stand as the only remaining candidate for the party in the Meath constituency.

Mr Ward, who is a former law lecturer, is credited with being instrumental in the 1995 campaign to have divorce ratified in Ireland.
