Three arrested over Ardoyne school bomb

Three men have been arrested in connection with a blast bomb thrown as Catholic children made their way to their primary school during the third day of protests in north Belfast.

Two RUC officers sustained shrapnel wounds in the blast bomb attack and two others were treated for minor injuries as violence erupted in the flashpoint Ardoyne area.

Meanwhile, the Northern Secretary John Reid has decided to cut short his summer holiday to deal with the dispute at the Holy Cross School.

A Northern Ireland Office spokesman says Dr Reid is responding to the recent violence in the area. It is believed the minister will return to Northern Ireland before the weekend.
