Post mortems due on Clonmel bodies

Post mortems will today be carried out on the two bodies found at a house in Clonmel, Co Tipperary.

Christopher Crowley and his six-year-old daughter Deirdre were discovered yesterday by gardai at a rented home at Coleville Road, in Clonmel, at around 2.30pm.

The grim find was made when a garda patrol called at the address after suspicions had been aroused among local colleagues about the house.

As officers moved in they heard a muffled noise. The bodies of the man and his daughter, neither of whom came from the Tipperary area, were lying inside the house. A gun was also found at the scene.

It is alleged Mr Crowley abducted his daughter from the Co Cork region 20 months ago.

People living in the Clonmel area said last night they were unaware of anybody living in the house where the bodies were found.

Neighbour Mary Horan reported: "There was very little activity in the house - we were not even sure it was let. We never saw a child or anyone else. This is a very quiet area."

State Pathologist Dr John Harbison will carry out the post mortems.
