Farmers call for foot-and-mouth vigilance

Farmers organisations have called for renewed vigilance to help keep foot-and- mouth disease out of Ireland.

Six new cases of the virus have been confirmed in the north of England, which had been free of the infection for months.

A 400 square mile restriction zone has been imposed.

The president of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers' Association, Pat O'Rourke, said it was essential that measures were stepped up at Irish ports.
