Gardai 'following line of inquiry' over Offaly shooting death

Gardai say they are following a line of inquiry into the death of a man in Co Offaly.

The man, in his early twenties, was found dead with gunshot wounds to the lower body in a house in Bellmont, near Birr, last night.

The body remains at the scene and a post mortem will be carried out later on by the State Pathologist Dr John Harbison.

Senior gardai in Birr are meeting today to establish the last movements of the man in a bid to establish the circumstances leading up to his death.
