100 more jobs to go in computer sector

A Dublin computer company is reported to be set to lay off 100 jobs in the latest blow to the high tech sector.

It is reported that Trend Technologies in Clondalkin will make the cuts.

The company, which has yet to publicly confirm the news, manufactures computer frames.

The news follows yesterday's announcement that Tellabs will cut 200 jobs with the closure of its Droheda plant in December.

Employers' group IBEC has warned that more job losses are likely.

Around 2,000 jobs have now been lost in the sector since the beginning of the month, including cuts at Tellabs in Drogheda, Gateway and Baltimore Technologies in Dublin and General Semicondcutors in Macroom, Co Cork.

Fine Gael has urged the Tanaiste to establish a national forum to minimise the effect of imminent job losses in the IT sector.
