Catholic church backs RUC reforms

The Catholic Church has backed a new blueprint for police reform in Northern Ireland, it emerged today.

As John Hume’s SDLP prepared to declare if it will nominate representatives to the Policing Board set up to oversee sweeping RUC changes, the announcement increases the likelihood that the nationalist party will endorse the Government’s plans.
