Parents ‘delighted’ with newborn quins

Quintuplets - three boys and two girls - have been born in a Dublin maternity hospital.

All five babies were today said to be doing well at Dublin’s Rotunda Hospital.

Their parents, Kevin and Veronica Cassidy, who are married and in heir late 20s, and from the Co Wexford village of Bridgetown, were reported by the hospital to be ‘‘absolutely delighted’’.

The quins, who were delivered by Caesarean section last night, are their first children.

Veronica, a hairdresser and beautician, had been almost 26 weeks pregnant, and the babies weighed between 1lb 8oz and 1lb 11oz.

Her husband works as a school caretaker.

A spokesperson for the hospital said the babies were ‘‘currently doing well, considering their size and prematurity’’.
