The Northern Assembly is reportedly on the verge of suspension for 24 hours to give all sides another six weeks to try and negotiate a settlement.

The Northern Assembly is reportedly on the verge of suspension for 24 hours to give all sides another six weeks to try and negotiate a settlement.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Brian Cowen, and the Northern Secretary, John Reid, are expected to make a decision early this afternoon.

The two Governments have been discussing the crisis by telephone over the last 24 hours.
