Government to answer for rising road deaths

The Government is preparing to defend its record on road safety today as a political storm grows over the spiralling number of deaths in recent weeks.

The third progress report on road safety strategy is due out this week with the Government under fire from all quarters as the body count on Irish roads continues to rise in 2001.
