Funeral to take place of Shavo Hogan

The funeral takes place today of murdered Dublin crime boss Seamus "Shavo" Hogan.

However, as the gang leader is laid to rest, detectives hunting his killers are still no closer to cracking his murder case.

47-year-old Hogan was gunned down a week ago outside the Crumlin Transport Club as he was out driving with his wife.

His murder was described as "professional", which led to speculation of paramilitary involvement.

Hogan had spent much of his life as a criminal, and at one time was a member of the gang run by the notorious crime lord Martin Cahill, known as "the General".

As a result he had many enemies in the IRA and INLA, as well as other groups operating in Dublin's criminal underworld now battling to take over his drugs empire.

This afternoon, Shavo Hogan will be buried in Mount Jerome Cemetery, close to the grave of Martin Cahill, who met a similar fate in 1994.
