Suitcase body: man died of head injuries
The results of a preliminary post-mortem examination today on a body found inside a suitcase dumped in a canal indicated the man had died of head injuries.
The victim of the killing had still to be identified, but Gardai issued a description of him, saying the man was in his early 30s and stockily built.
The body had been tied up with twine and was discovered last night by passers-by in a stretch of the Dublin Royal Canal not far from Croke Park.
Meanwhile, police expected to name later today a woman whose body was found on steps beside the city’s River Liffey this morning, a short distance from Dublin’s Custom House building.
The woman was in her 40s, and formal identification was anticipated from members of her family.
