Minister to approve new garda radio network
Justice Minister John O'Donoghue is today due to sign a £5m project aimed at preventing criminals from eavesdropping on garda radio frequencies.
Electronics giant Nokia has agreed to design a new high-security radio network for the gardai, replacing the old analogue system.
Personal computers are also being installed in all squad cars, which will allow officers to access central data on suspects while on the move.
The installation of the new network is expected to cost the taxpayer in the region of £85m.
