Drumcree security crackdown begins

A major security operation has begun in Portadown with 600 troops taking

up positions to prevent Orangemen from walking down the nationalist Garvaghy

Road.

Once again, a huge steel and concrete barrier is being erected at Drumcree bridge.

Barbed wire and razor wire were also being used to create a no-mans land in fields adjacent to the barrier and a water-filled ditch is being widened.

Early this morning, a convoy of about 30 British army trucks came under attack from stone throwers as they moved to block the bridge.
