UN urged to abolish slavery
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson, is being urged to make the abolition of slavery her priority.
The United Nations Commissioner has accepted tens of thousands of anti-slavery campaign postcards from Irish citizens who want to see the practice abolished worldwide.
About 42,000 postcards were gathered from the Irish people by the aid agency, Trócaire.
The organisers are said to be delighted with the response to the campaign.
