The Irish government cannot continue to bail out a troubled project to sail a full-size replica of a 19th century emigrant ship to America, the marine minister said today.

The cost of the project to construct the vessel, called the Jeanie Johnston, has doubled to more than £10m and its maiden voyage this summer was cancelled yesterday following an inspection by the Department of the Marine.
