Millionaire contestant who proved he was right gets another go
An Irish Who Wants To Be A Millionaire contestant who claims a producer's mistake cost him tens of thousands of pounds is going back on the show.
Shane O'Doherty will re-join the show to answer a £125,000 question. The previous one asked where in the body the lunula is.
Host Gay Byrne said it's in the fingernail - not in the heart, as Mr O'Doherty said. Heart surgeons have confirmed Mr O'Doherty was right.
Mr O'Doherty was on £64,000 and going for £125,000 when he was told the answer he'd given was wrong.
He plans to ask the programme-makers Tyrone Productions to make a contribution to a heart charity.
"I would like to join forces with them. Some people have been saying I should get appearance money because of all the money they're going to make from the publicity, but I'd like to do something for charity instead," he said.
Heart surgeon Maurice Nelligan confirmed the heart was also the correct answer to the question.
Mr O'Doherty said the bookies were offering odds of 50-1 against him reaching £1m, but said it would be a good bet.
