Eight-year-old to be buried today

The funeral of eight-year-old Karl Murphy, who was found dead on a beach in Greystones on Friday night, will take place this morning in Ashford Co Wicklow.

A murder investigation is continuing following the results of a post mortem examination.

The close-knit community of Rathnew is still trying to come to terms with the death.

Karl's mother Ruth, who was found in a state of shock close to where Karl's body was found, is being treated in hospital.

She has been questioned by gardai at the weekend.

Karl had been living with his father at Rathnew.

His parents had been separated for over a year.

Karl was last seen in a car with his mother near his home on Friday.

His father reported him missing on Friday night.

But less than two hours later, his body was found face down in shallow water on the north beach in Greystones.
