RUC assistant chief constable Alan McQuillan has said there appeared to have been an element of organisation to the rioting in Belfast last night.

Asked whether he thought paramilitaries were involved in the incident, he said: ‘‘Last night we had six shots fired at us from the loyalist side, we had three shots fired at us from the nationalist side, we had over 100 petrol bombs thrown, acid bombs.
