A 31-year-old man is fighting for his life in a Cork hospital this morning after being stabbed fourteen times in a knife attack in the city early this morning.

A 31-year-old man is fighting for his life in a Cork hospital this morning after being stabbed fourteen times in a knife attack in the city early this morning.

The man was attacked at a house in Dominic Street near Shandon at around 3.30am.

He managed to raise the alarm by dialling 999 on his mobile phone.

He was rushed by ambulance to Cork University hospital.

Gardai have sealed off the house and technical experts are carrying out an examination of the scene.
