Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble has rejected the latest IRA statement as a basis for lifting his threat to resign and his ban on Sinn Fein ministers attending cross-border meetings.

SDLP leader John Hume however said he welcomed the statement, adding it should be left to the Decommissioning Body to rule on the weapons issue.
