Sinn Fein national chairman Mitchel McLaughlin insisted that Ireland, North and South, could prosper from having its agricultural industries on both sides of the border harmonised.

He said in response to Mr Trimble: ‘‘I think the foot-and-mouth crisis illustrated just why we need Ireland to have a harmonisation of its farming police.
