Mystery candidate to fight Fermanagh/South Tyrone seat

The DUP says there will, after all, be an anti-Agreement candidate in the Fermanagh/South Tyrone parliamentary elections.

Yesterday, anti-Agreement independent unionist and Enniskillen bomb survivor, Jim Dixon, withdrew citing a smear campaign by fellow unionists.

Maurice Morrow, the DUP candidate who originally withdrew in Mr Dixon's favour, alleged today there would be an anti-Agreement candidate in Fermanagh/South Tyrone.

He refused to identify him other than to say it would be a surprise to some and a shock to others and the individual was well known from TV appearances.

Since then it has emerged the mystery anti-Agreement candidate has Orange Order connections and is apparently well known in the constituency.

The row over the alleged personnel smear campaign against Jim Dixon forcing him out of the race has not died down.

Ulster Unionist party leader David Trimble has pledged to try to get to the bottom of claims that the blackmailer came from within his own party.
