Trawler seized by Navy

An Irish registered, Spanish fishing trawler has been detained off the South coast this evening.

The Bylgja was stopped by the naval vessel, the LE Ciara, about 20 miles South West of the Fastnet rock at about six o’clock today.

It is believed that the boat was over fishing its quota of hake and under recording the catch.

The ship is being escorted to Castletownbere where it will be handed over to investigating Gardai.

The seizure brings to 14 the total number of fishing vessels detained by the naval service so far this year.
