A leading member of the Portadown Orange order is calling for the RUC to stand up for the protestant community.

The District Master in the Portadown area, Harold Gracey, was speaking at a gathering of about 300 loyalists in the town and told RUC officers to search their consciences before upholding the bans on Orange marches.

The meeting was one of several organised to mark the 1,000th day of the standoff between Orangemen, who want to walk down the Garvaghy Road in Drumcree, and the RUC.
