A 23-year-old Sligo man has been charged with the armed robbery of almost £3,000 at a Post Office in the town last Tuesday.

Michael O’Rourke pleaded guilty to the charges before a special sitting of the Sligo District Court.

His application for bail was refused by the Judge after it was revealed that Mr O’Rourke had threatened three customers during the raid and Gardai feared that he would try to interfere with witnesses.

Mr O’Rourke will appear before the Court again next Thursday. Gardai are still searching for the stolen money after the accused refused to tell them where it had been left.
