Abbeylara sub-committee meets in private session
The Oireachtas sub-committee which is investigating the fatal shooting of John Carthy in Abbeylara will meet in private session today to decide if nine Gardai should testify before the public hearing.
Lawyers for the nine men, members of the controversial emergency response unit, claim that an appearance by the officers could prejudice the future work of Gardai in similar situations.
Justice Minister John O' Donoghue said over the weekend that he was concerned about the harm that publicity, arising out of such an appearance by the Gardai, could have on the work of the force.
