Tanaiste statement sought on GMX closure

Fine Gael has called on the Tanaiste to make a statement on regional job losses following confirmation of the closure of GMX in Thurles with the loss of 230 jobs.

The party said Mary Harney's promises about regional development were not being followed up by action.

Spokesman Charlie Flanagan said there had been no real attempt by the government to ensure that jobs were spread right throughout the economy.
