Abbeylara committee to announce details today

The Oireachtas sub-committee on the Abbeylara incident is to announce details today of the parliamentary inquiry into the shooting dead of John Carthy.

The inquiry is due to get underway next Tuesday and investigate the Co Longford siege which led to the death of the 27-year-old in April last year.

Details will be outlined this afternoon by the committee's chairman, Deputy Sean Ardagh.

An inquest found that Mr Carthy died from four gunshots fired from behind by the Garda Emergency Response Unit.
