Foot-and-mouth crisis continues in the North

The burning of animals killed in the latest foot-and-mouth outbreaks in Co Tyrone and Co Antrim has begun.

A pall of smoke hangs over Ardboe in Co Tyrone, where a support group has been established by Canon Harry Moore who said people were despondent but would eventually recover from the crisis.

In Co Armagh a farm has been placed under restriction as blood samples from a suspect animal are sent to the laboratory in England although it is not yet being described as a hot suspect.

There is still great concern over how the disease spread across country from south Armagh to Tyrone and Antrim.

Some farmers are angry at suggestions the virus is being spread by illegal livestock movement, but the Ulster Farmers' Union said it is a possibility the authorities cannot ignore.
