A post mortem is to be carried out by the State pathologist Dr John Harbison on the body of a 20-month-old baby from Clane, Co Kildare later today.

A post mortem is to be carried out by the State pathologist Dr John Harbison on the body of a 20-month-old baby from Clane, Co Kildare later today.

Nathan Alli died in suspicious circumstances in the early hours of the morning after being taken to Naas General Hospital.

It is believed there were no visible signs of injury on his body.

A Somalian man in his late twenties was taken into custody in connection with the death and is being held under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act at Naas Garda Station.

He can be held until 7pm this evening.

The child's mother, who is Irish, has been living in the Clane area for a number of years.
