Gilligan alleged to threaten prison officer's family
A senior prison officer in Port Laoise jail, who was allegedly punched in the jaw by convicted drugs baron John Gilligan, has said Mr Gilligan threatened to kill him and a colleague along with both of their families.
The High Court has also heard that the alleged assault on Assistant Chief Prison Officer Martin Ryan took place when he was on his own with both John Gilligan and Brian Meehan, who is seerving life for the murder of journalist, Veronica Guerin.
John Gilligan is challenging penalties imposed upon him for the alleged attack.
He argues he wasn't given a chance to give his side of the story.
