A Co Kildare woman suffered a broken nose and may have permanently lost the sight in one of her eyes after an attack in Newbridge, Co Kildare last night.

A Co Kildare woman suffered a broken nose and may have permanently lost the sight in one of her eyes after an attack in Newbridge, Co Kildare last night.

Annaline Lillis from Moorefield Park in the town was walking with her husband when they were set upon by a gang who pelted them with eggs.

Mrs Lillis, who has a heart condition, was taken to Naas General Hospital and later transferred to the Eye and Ear Hospital in Dublin.

Gardai believe that a blue-coloured car was used in the attack and have appealed for information.
