The former Dublin Assistant City and County Manager, George Redmond, has been charged with four counts of corruption.

The 76-year-old was remanded on his own bail of ÂŁ900 after his solicitor told the court his client's only source of income is a ÂŁ30,000 pension.

Detective Inspector Pat Byrne told the court he charged Mr Redmond at 11.30am and that the accused had made no reply.

The DPP has directed that the trial go ahead by indictment and the book of evidence has been served on Mr Redmond.

The case has been adjourned until May 29 next.
