July 24 has been set as the date for the State's appeal against the leniency of the sentences imposed on two men convicted of the manslaughter of Det Gda Jerry McCabe.

Pearse McAuley and Kevin Walsh were given 14 year sentences after being convicted of the offence following the shooting of Det Gda McCabe in Adare in 1999.

Their incarceration at Castlereagh prison in Co Roscommon has been heavily criticised because of the amount of temporary release time both men have been granted.
