The Government’s specially appointed task force for the foot-and-mouth disease predicts that as many as forty thousand animals may have to be culled to prevent the disease from spreading from Co Louth.

The committee held their first meeting today, which was chaired by the Taoiseach, since the disease was confirmed in Ireland.
