Today is the Irish Cancer Society's 'Daffodil Day' when 5,000 volunteers will hope to raise £1.25m to fund free specialist cancer nursing services.

The national day, which is now in its thirteenth year, is instrumental in assisting thousands of cancer sufferers in Ireland.

Society chief executive Barry Dempsey said the monies raised would be used to provide services such as homecare, night nursing and psychological support nursing.
