Campaign underway to stop Swilly shellfish farming

A petition with almost 9,000 signatures will be handed to the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, Frank Fahy, at the Dáil today.

The Save the Swilly Campaign - representing over 20 groups - will deliver the petition.

The groups want a moratorium on new salmon and shellfish farming in Donegal's Lough Swilly until there is consultation with local people.

They also want an assessment of the full environmental impact of such a scheme.

Celebrated musicians Phil Coulter and Paul Brady will be in attendance to lend their support.
